Old Lyme ZBA To Hear Sill Lane Addition, Mile Creek Road Excavation Permit Appeal

OLD LYME, CT — The Old Lyme Zoning Board of Appeals will consider an addition to a nonconforming Sill Lane home and an appeal involving renewal of an excavation permit on Mile Creek Road when it meets Thursday, Sept. 17.

The board is also scheduled to take up a proposal to replace a Columbus Avenue house with a new FEMA-compliant dwelling, although the applicants have requested that hearing be continued until Oct. 15.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Meeting Hall at Memorial Town Hall, 52 Lyme St.

Addition, Garage Proposed On Sill Lane

Linda and Jeffrey Richartz are seeking approval for changes to an existing nonconforming residence at 54 Sill Lane.

The application calls for a new front-entry vestibule, enclosure of the existing carport and deck to create additional living space, and construction of a detached two-car garage with storage above. The property is in the RU-40 Zone.

The applicants have also submitted a Coastal Site Plan Review application.

Excavation Permit Renewal Appealed

The board will also hear an appeal by Peter and Millie Caron involving 308-1 Mile Creek Road.

The Carons are appealing a decision by the zoning enforcement official to administratively renew an excavation zoning permit for the property, which is in the RU-80 Zone.

Columbus Avenue Hearing May Move To October

Edward and Judith Cermamicoli are proposing to replace an existing dwelling at 72 Columbus Ave. with a new FEMA-compliant house.

The R-10 property is adjacent to coastal resources and inland wetlands and is within a VE-13 Coastal High Hazard Flood Zone. A Coastal Site Plan Review application was submitted with the proposal.

The applicants have requested that the public hearing be continued to Oct. 15. The agenda does not indicate that the board has already acted on that request.

Board To Discuss Video Recording Meetings

Outside the public hearings, the ZBA will discuss whether there is interest in video-recording its meetings in addition to the current audio recordings. Commissioners are also scheduled to receive new cases and set their public hearing dates, hear an update from the chair and consider approval of the July 16 meeting minutes.
