A pharmacy will open in an Old Lyme plaza after Walgreens closed there last month, according to reports.

OLD LYME, CT — The Medicine Shoppe will be opening an Old Lyme location following the recent closure of the town's Walgreens.

The new pharmacy will be coming to 90 Halls Road in the Old Lyme Marketplace. The shop will occupy a 1,545-square-foot space near Big Y, according to The Connecticut Scoop.

The small-format pharmacy is anticipated to open in the spring, subject to local and state government approvals.

The Medicine Shoppe also operates a nearby Old Saybrook location at 535 Boston Post Road.

Nagy Wasseff, an Old Lyme resident, operates the Old Saybrook store and will also operate the Old Lyme store. He told LymeLine that the store will be significantly smaller than Walgreens' 9,000-square-foot space and will have a smaller staff.

The store is intentionally different than its big-box competitors, focusing on personalized, community-based care with a pharmacists who know their patients by name, according to The Connecticut Scoop.

The Medicine Shoppe will offer delivery and other personalized services including pre-sorted packaging to organize prescriptions into daily doses, LymeLine reported.
