Pumpkins On The Point

The Saybrook Point Inn & Spa is celebrating Halloween 2014 with a spectacular pumpkin festival along the shores of the Connecticut River in Old Saybrook. Beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31, more than 350 locally grown, hand-carved pumpkins will light up the terrace and marina docks of the Saybrook Point Inn & Spa during the first annual “Pumpkins On The Point” Halloween pumpkin extravaganza. Guests will enjoy trick or treat trails, hayrides, haunted cemetery tours, pumpkin carving and painting, a bounce house, farmer’s market, DJ music, and seasonal food delights expertly prepared by Fresh Salt’s award-winning culinary team. Admission to the event is free and open to all ages.

“Pumpkins On The Point” at the Saybrook Point Inn & Spa begins on Friday, October 31 at 4:00 p.m. and runs through Sunday, November 2. Celebrations take place from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Prizes will be awarded for best designs, and the public is invited to bring their own hand-craved creation for inclusion in this fun Halloween pumpkin spectacular. The event also features a blood drive to support the American Red Cross on Friday, October 31 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

In addition, on Saturday, November 1st, “Pumpkins On The Point” will offer tours of Cypress Cemetery, one of the nation’s oldest and continuously operating burial grounds. Known as an ancient burial place, Cypress Cemetery is steeped in history dating back to the earliest settlements in Connecticut and the Saybrook Colony in 1635. Guests will hear remarkable stories about the cemetery’s history and some of the notable people who passed away during those early and difficult days in colonial history. Tours of Cypress Cemetery will leave the parking lot at Saybrook Point Inn & Spa beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Saybrook Point Inn & Spa is also offering a special overnight Halloween package during “Pumpkins On The Point,” which includes tickets to Chamard Vineyards’ festive Halloween-themed masquerade party in Clinton, Connecticut. Starting at $299, accommodations include a creatively themed pumpkin breakfast at Fresh Salt featuring pumpkin twists on traditional morning favorites such as Pumpkin Pancakes and Pumpkin Belgium Waffles. Guests who book a second night will also receive $50 off their room and enjoy complimentary brunch at Fresh Salt on Sunday, November 2nd. SANNO Spa at Saybrook Point Inn & Spa is also offering a series of pumpkin-themed treatments during “Pumpkins On The Point.” This includes an Organic Harvest Facial ($25), Yam & Pumpkin Mini Peel ($30), Pumpkin Body Wrap and Scrub ($109), and Express Pumpkin Pack ($100) with mini manicure, pedicure and facial.

“Pumpkins On The Point” is a new festive Halloween celebration that honors New England’s favorite orange squash and traditional autumn staple. More than 350 pumpkins will be delivered to local public schools in Old Saybrook on October 27th where students will have five days to carve and paint their creation for display and merriment at the Saybrook Point Inn & Spa from Friday, October 31 to Sunday, November 2. Weekend festivities include pumpkin-infused specialties served at Fresh Salt on Friday and Saturday with pumpkin-themed brunch offerings served on Sunday. Seasonal food, arts and craft items and treats will also be available for sale on the restaurant’s terrace throughout the weekend.

Pumpkin-infused menu delights at Fresh Salt include Pumpkin Bisque, Pumpkin Risotto with Pork Tenderloin, Pumpkin Shepherd’s Pie, creative pumpkin-themed seasonal beverages such as Pumpkin Martinis and Hot Malted Cider available at the Marina Bar.

Halloween movies will also be shown on big screen televisions throughout Fresh Salt and its outdoor terrace, and a moon bounce will be available as well as a photo booth. Come and join the fun!
