Southeastern CT Beach Closed Due To Bacteria Levels, State Says

EAST LYME, CT — Rocky Neck State Park (West Beach) in Niantic is closed Wednesday, according to the state.

Water quality samples are collected weekly by Department of Energy and Environmental Protection staff. The samples are analyzed at a lab for the presence of specific forms of bacteria.

The state then determines whether swim areas can be kept open by the most recent water quality test results during peak summer season. Tests are conducted weekly from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

The state's other three state park beaches are open.
