Touch-A-Truck: A Community Affair
It takes a Community: Corporate Sponsors, Community Organizations, High School Volunteers
On Saturday, May 16, 2015 (rain date Sunday, May 17), the East Lyme Auxiliary of Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut and the East Lyme Parks and Recreation Department will co-sponsor the eighth annual Touch-A-Truck event from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at McCook Point Park in Niantic, CT.
Even though the event is sponsored by these two groups, the undertaking is truly a Community Affair. Our Gold Corporate Sponsor is Crest Ford. Jim Leva, the Dealer Principal of Crest Ford, had been a special friend to T-A-T. In sponsoring the Photo Booth, Jim has brought his creativity to the event each year. From piercing horns to clever wooden truck mock-ups, Jim has entertained the children and families who have come to have their photos taken at the photo booth. New surprises are planned for this year.
Our Bronze sponsors are Chelsea Groton Bank of Niantic, represented by Dana Chapel, Regional Sales and Service Manager; Jaime Chambers, Vice-President of UBS Financial Services in New London, and Reynolds Garage and Marine of Lyme, represented by Vice-President, G. Hayden Reynolds. Also, 73 other businesses have advertised in our program booklet. Their generous support makes this event possible.

In addition, our Community Volunteers are a vital part of the event. The E.L. Rotary Club not only sponsors the AMBER ALERT Project, but it also sponsors a Breakfast and Lunch booth. The E.L. Lions Club is famous for its Kettle Corn Booth, whose aroma entices people all over the park.
Finally, members of the East Lyme Aux. of the Child & Family Agency have sponsored 140 tickets to Touch-A-Truck, to be given to the children and families being served by East Lyme’s Care & Share and by the Child and Family Agency.

In keeping with our Community support, the event is also inter-generational. Students from the ELHS Drama program delight the children all day as they portray-in costume- Bob the Builder. In addition, the Leos of East Lyme High School assist all day with activities and parking.
Private sponsors, community organizations, high school volunteers- all make up the community which brings Touch-A-Truck to life!
