Touch A Truck: a Community Affair

Touch A Truck- It takes a Community

It takes a Community: Corporate Sponsors, Community Organizations, High School Volunteers, Parks & Rec Department workers, and the Child and Family Volunteers- all to make Touch A Truck possible.

On Saturday, May 20th the East Lyme Auxiliary of Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut and the East Lyme Parks and Recreation Department will co-sponsor the Tenth Annual Touch A Truck event from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at McCook Point Park in Niantic, CT.

Even though the event is sponsored by these two groups, the undertaking is truly a Community Affair. Our Gold Corporate Sponsor is Crest Ford. Jim Leva of Crest Ford has been a special friend to TAT. He has brought his creativity to the event each year. From piercing horns to clever wooden truck mock-ups, to photo booths, to free Frisbees, Jim and his team have entertained the children and their families.

Our Silver Sponsors are Chelsea Groton Bank of Niantic and Shoreline Physical Therapy of East Lyme. Bronze Sponsors are Dime Bank of East Lyme, Jamie Chambers of UBS Financial Services in New London, Shoreline Periodontics in New London and Reynolds Garage and Marine of Lyme.

We are also proud of our Program Advertisers who have faithfully advertised with us for the ten years we have been in existence: Burnett’s Landscaping/Safe Lawns of Salem, Casey’s Property Maintenance, Charter Oak Walk-In Medical Center, Debra K. Daren, DDS, Guy’s Oil Services, McNamara & McNamara, Niantic Dairy Queen, Niantic Dental Associates, ProTek Auto, Shoreline Physical Therapy, UBS – Jamie Chambers, Waterford Dental Health, and Yost Home Improvements. The generous support of these area businesses makes this event possible.

In addition, our Community Volunteers are a vital part of the event. The East Lyme Rotary Club not only sponsors the AMBER ALERT Project, but it also sponsors a lunch booth featuring delicious hamburgers. The East Lyme Lions Club is famous for its Kettle Corn Booth, whose aroma entices people from all over the park. The East Lyme Auxiliary of Child and Family serves the best hotdogs in town!

Finally, members of the East Lyme Auxiliary of the Child & Family Agency have sponsored 150 tickets to Touch A Truck, to be given to the children and families being served by East Lyme’s Care & Share and by the Child and Family Agency.

In keeping with our Community support, the event is also inter-generational. Students from the ELHS Drama program delight the children all day as they portray - in costume - Bob the Builder. In addition, the Leos of East Lyme High School assist all day with activities and parking.

Private sponsors, community organizations, high school volunteers- all make up the community that brings Touch A Truck to life! For more information, check out the Child & Family Agency’s website at www.childandfamily.org or call 860-443-2896, ext. 1406

Don’t miss this COMMUNITY AFFAIR.
