Truck Types at the East Lyme TRUCK BASH

Don't miss the East Lyme Touch a Truck!

The main event is, of course, trucks! There is no better way to spend a day with your children than at the East Lyme Parks and Recreation and East Lyme Auxiliary of Child & Family Agency’s Touch a Truck on Saturday, October 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at McCook Point Park in Niantic. There is no Rain Date.

This year, the event will feature fire trucks and fire safety. To encourage the children to be part of this theme, the Auxiliary will provide each child with a bright red Fireman’s hat. Wearing these hats, the children will be able to climb, steer, blow horns, and imagine among an amazing array of fire vehicles. There will be a pumper, a ladder truck and an ambulance from the Niantic Fire Dept. In addition, there will be a Smoke House Truck from the Mystic Fire Department.

Other types will include a bucket truck, satellite truck, paramedic van, police cruiser, limousine, aerial lift truck, the Naval Subbase patrol boat, as well as many of the Town of East Lyme’s vehicles. The fascinating WFSB-Channel 3 TV truck will also be present. A special new feature will be a dump truck filled with sand and shovels for “beach” fun. This list is just a “teaser”; we will have about 20 more vehicles for the children to explore!

Returning again for the eleventh year, Wendy Nielsen and Terry Merola have done a yeomanly job at scheduling the many trucks and coordinating with the East Lyme Parks and Recreation Department. Each year, they have contacted the truckers, mapped the location of each truck, and welcomed the truckers early in the morning on the day of the event. The delight the children take in the trucks is due to their organization and efficiency.

The requested donation is $4 per person with children under age two admitted free of charge. Proceeds benefit the work of Child & Family Agency of Southeastern CT as it annually meets the needs of over seventeen thousand children and their families in our communities.
