White Powder Found In Niantic Resident's Mailbox Not Hazardous
On Tuesday, a Niantic resident discovered a white powder substance in their mailbox. Officials determined the substance was not hazardous.
NIANTIC, CT—A white powdery substance discovered in a mailbox at a Niantic home was found to not be hazardous, East Lyme Police Chief Michael Finkelstein told The Day.
According to a report, shortly after noon Tuesday, East Lyme police investigators were joined by the Sub Base Fire Department's Hazmat Team, the Flanders and Niantic fire departments, as well as the Connecticut State Police Emergency Services Unit at a Fairhaven Road home for a report of a white powder substance.
Finkelstein told the Day that after around two hours, officials and first responders confirmed the substance wasn't a hazard and there was no "criminal aspect" to the incident.
