TOLLAND, CT β€” A crash Monday morning prompted an extended highway closure on the eastbound side of Interstate 84 in Tolland.

State police said the crash took place at 9:58 a.m.

The shutdown was between exits 68 and 69, Tolland fire officials said.

Tolland fire officials also said the crash involved serious injuries and a medical helicopter had been called to the scene and the driver, a 38-year-old man from Yonkers, NY, was flown to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries, according to a crash report.

The crash was initially reported to involve two cars, but state police said early Monday afternoon that it was just a single vehicle. A crash report indicates that a 2022 Hyundai Sante Fe was heading east and suddenly swerved from the left lane, across the center and right lanes and onto the shoulder, where is slammed into a tree and rolled over.

The closed section of I-84 west was reopened at about noon. Ninety minutes later I-84 east was reopened.
