TOLLAND/VERNON, CT — The two Maine men charged in a large Friday night drug bust on Interstate-84 appeared in Rockville Superior Court on court on Monday and failed to post six-figure bonds.

Teddy Hanson, 40, remained in custody on a $125,000 bond and is due back before a judge on June 27, a clerk at the court said. James Curtis, 46, is due back on July 12 and failed to post a $25o,000 bond, a clerk at the courthouse said.

On Friday at 4:36 p.m., troopers from Troop C in Tolland were patrolling the Interstate-84 eastbound lanes when they observed a Hyundai sedan tailgating another vehicle, state police said. Troopers also noticed the front seat passenger was not wearing a seat belt and initiated a traffic stop in the area of Exit 69 in Tolland, state police said.

While speaking with the occupants, Hanson and Curtis, troopers observed "indicators of criminal activity" and several "edibles," or THC-laced brownies, in the glove compartment in plain view, state police said.
Dutch, a narcotic detection police dog out of Troop D in Danielson, responded to the scene, state police said. Dutch detected the presence of narcotics in the vehicle and Troopers located approximately 230 bags of suspected heroin, located in a cardboard box in the passenger compartment of the vehicle, state police said.
