2 Hawks Rescued In Separate Tolland Incidents

TOLLAND, CT — Two hawks who found themselves in precarious positions were rescued in Tolland over the past week.

Tolland animal control officials said early Thursday morning that a hawk had become stuck in a car's grille. The hawk was freed and transported to Horizon Wings Raptor Rehabilitation in Ashford and is currently being looked after with unspecified injuries, animal control officials said.

On Sunday night, a local family found a young Coopers Hawk (now known as "Darrell") that had become caught in a net covering berry bushes. The family was able to cut him from the netting and then called Tolland Animal Control.

Animal control officers brought Darryl the local shelter and untangled a piece of netting that was tightly wound around his leg, foot, and talons.

Darryl was able to stand on the leg by Monday morning and Horizon Wings began treating him for an abdominal wound, officials said. He was eventually taken to Tufts Veterinary Hospital for further evaluation and treatment, officials said.
