November 1 & December 13, 2014
Goodspeed Musicals is offering Continuing Education hours to educators who attend our professional development series. The Max Showalter Center for Education in Musical Theatre at Goodspeed Musicals has organized a 2-day event dedicated to teachers in Connecticut. The seminars will be held on the beautiful Goodspeed campus and each will address the challenges that arise in directing high school productions. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to receive individualized support, expert advice, and diverse perspectives from educational, community, and professional theatre practitioners. Included in the tuition, participants will receive a backstage tour of Goodspeed Opera House, a complimentary ticket to a Goodspeed show, and professional development hours!

Applications are due by October 27, 2014.
You must submit your tuition payment ($150 per session).

Important dates:
• October 27, 2014: Application deadline
• October 28, 2014: Applicants will be notified of status
Total tuition: $150 per session
Applicants may choose to attend one or both of the sessions. Included in the tuition, participants will receive a backstage tour of the Goodspeed Opera House, a ticket to the 8:00 p.m. performance of Holiday Inn (see application for specific dates), and CEU hours.
Please make checks payable to The Goodspeed Opera House Foundation. If you are not accepted, your tuition will be refunded in full.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Participants can choose to attend one or both of the following sessions:
Session I: The Challenges of Directing for High School Theater
November 1, 2014
Backstage Tour: 8:15-8:45 AM (optional)
Session: 9:00 AM-1:00 PM
• Discuss strategies to put on the optimal high school production.
• Brainstorm directing techniques, strategies for tapping potential, and ways to improve cast and crew collaboration.
• Learn where to access scarce equipment and resources.
• Receive individualized attention and networking opportunities.
• Join other educational and professional theatre practitioners to brainstorm new ideas, share experiences, and talk about how to improve your approach to putting on a high school production.
• Strategies to better relate theatre to the Common Core.
Session II: Technical Theater for High School Productions
December 13, 2014
Backstage Tour: 8:15-8:45 AM (optional)
Session: 9:00 AM-1:00 PM
• Learn and discuss how to create the best possible high school production from a technical perspective.
• Discuss and brainstorm technical theatre procedures, strategies, and suggested locations to rent, purchase, and borrow supplies.
• Design and technical elements related to the Common Core.
• Learn where to access scarce equipment and resources.
Receive individualized attention and networking opportunities with educational and professional theatre practitioners.
PROGRAM INCLUDES
• A maximum of 4.0 Continuing Education hours per session plus 2.0 hours for attending the show
• A backstage tour of Goodspeed Opera House
• Access to Goodspeed staff
• Opportunities to network with other educational, community, and professional theatre directors
• A ticket to Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn at Goodspeed Opera House (Specified dates)
