400,000 People March in NYC Demanding Climate Action

On Sunday September 21, the Peoples Climate March demanded political action to protect our climate for future generations.

Signs were everywhere ! We know what the problem is, We know how to fix it. Polluters must pay. Many signs asked for a Carbon fee with dividend to make polluters pay without burdening the average person with additional costs. This system would add a slowly rising fee to the price of every pound of fossil carbon brought to the surface. All of the money collected would be returned equally to every person filling an income tax form. This would increase the price of fossil fuels without affecting most peoples average budget and allow alternate energy sources to compete without subsidies. This would produce a huge increase in jobs because alternative energy sources need a lot more labor for their installation and maintenance. These would be local jobs that could not be outsourced. An import duty is added to any products from a country without a carbon fee system. China and several South American countries are considering this system now. British Columbia in Canada enacted the system several years ago and the residents are quite happy with it. By attaching a price to the release of fossil carbon into the air it makes capitalism work for us instead of against us. Unlike Cap and Trade it is a simple system that does not increase volatility of energy prices. Senator Larson’s bill was only 12 pages long.
