TOLLAND, CT — Heading into another weekend of springtime yard clean-ups, Tolland fire officials are asking that residents not burn any brush.

"The fire danger for Tolland today is once again high," fire officials said Friday morning. "Please no open burning."

That translates no sparks outside, they said.

Despite some rain this week, the ground is still essentially dry and fires can spread rapidly, officials said.

And the same caution goes for wood stoves after a few colder overnight periods.

"Please dispose of wood ashes in a metal bucket and soak the ashes with water before dumping them outside," officials said. "If you see a fire, call 911 immediately."
