Why are you seeking this office?
To continue my work to make Connecticut more affordable. I am working on several different initiatives regarding funding for education, public safety, senior affordability, moving people from state programs to financial independence and making Connecticut a more affordable place for seniors, working families, young adults and all of it's residents.
What do you believe is the No. 1 issue facing Connecticut, and how do you plan to address it?
Affordability. There are several paths, some of which I mentioned above. Creating sustainable reliable education funding, removing waste from the system and decreasing spending. Moving people toward independence, making resources more affordable and ensuring you can afford to live and retire in the state.
Energy costs have been soaring in Connecticut. What are your plans to help address this issue?
First and foremost we need more resources in the state. We need to work with our neighboring states to expand natural gas pipes and hydro energy. Then we need to review the near 100 pieces of legislation that are driving the cost energy higher and remove any unnecessary legislation that is not aiding the states residents. We need to review all of the programs and ensure they are serving their initial purpose and make sure they are part of the state budget and not in hiden taxes on your electric/gas/water bills.
Affordability has been a major topic across the country and here in Connecticut. How do you plan to address this issue?
Same answer as above.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
Since I've been in office I have been able to negotiate no cuts to the towns funding from the state for the education cost sharing grant. I have worked to increase the share the state pays toward the education cost sharing grant which resulted in a minimum 4% increase this last year to every town in the state. I have also helped develop new programs in our district regarding public safety and mental health programs for schools and the urgent crisis care centers. I was also a key negotiator to stopping the development of a juvenile detention center in the heart of our economic development district in Tolland.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
It is my honor and privilege to represent you in Hartford. My door is open to everyone to discuss any issues that are important to you. I am asking for your support to continue representing your voice in Hartford.
