TOLLAND, CT — A multi-vehicle crash along a notorious stretch of Interstate 84 Tuesday left the highway a mess and some of those involved in ambulances, state police said.
The crash took place at 1:19 p.m. on the eastbound side of the highway, between exits 67 and 68, state police said.
Three people were transported to area hospitals via EMS units with non-life-threatening injuries, state police said.
At first, the highway was closed, but one lane was opened relatively quickly, state police and Tolland Fire Department officials said.
Debris was scattered about and a crew from the state Department of Transportation arrived at the scene to lead the cleanup efforts, state police said.
Multiple vehicles were towed from the scene, state police said.
The crash is still being investigated.
The stretch of highway in the area is known for its crashes because of curvy, hilly terrain that leads to fluctuating speeds. Swampy areas around the highway can cause weather variations as well.
