In a unique writing workshop for teens and adults on Oct. 29, young adult author Dawn Metcalf used a variety of scents in film canisters to tap into the audience's senses.
As each audience members sniffed the scents, Dawn then asked them write down the memories, people and scenes that the scents evoked.
Tapping into the senses is one way to make one's writing richer, she said.
The audience drew 16 people from as far away as Stonington, including several teen fans of Metcalf's books, "Luminous" and "Indelible."
The talk was sponsored by the Tolland Public Library Foundation and was part of the Eaton-Dimock-King Authors Series.
