Basketball, Hockey Update for Tolland High School

A look at the postseason possibilities for Eagles basketball and ice hockey.

As regular season play on the ice and hardcourt enters its final weeks, one Tolland High School basketball team has already qualified for state tournament play, while two others are on the verge of making it to the dance.

Girls basketball has posted a 9-6 record thus far, ranking 21st in Class M. The Eagles have struggled of late, dropping their last three outings. Next: home vs. Rockville, Thursday, 5:30 p.m.

On the brink

Boys basketball is 6-7, and needs two victories in the final seven games to make it into the Class M tournament. An up-and-down year that has seen no winning or losing streak exceeding two games currently has the Eagles on a two-game win streak. Next: at Rockville, Thursday, 7 p.m.

After last year’s Division III ice hockey title, the E.O. Smith-Tolland co-op team was moved up to Division II this season. The Bucks are 5-4, currently ranking 10th in D-2, despite losing their last two contests. Next: home vs. Newtown, Wednesday, 6:45 p.m.
