Car Loses Part Of Roof Rack As It Strikes Low-Hanging Communications Wire In Tolland

TOLLAND, CT — A Toyota Corolla struck a low-hanging communications wire while traveling on Slater Road in Tolland, according to Connecticut State Police.

The crash occurred Sept. 24 as the silver 2015 Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on Slater Road near house No. 35, according to a state police crash information summary.

Police said an overhead communications wire from a utility pole (No. 1550) caught on the vehicle's roof rack as the Corolla passed the residence. As the vehicle continued westbound, the wire was pulled from overhead and the passenger side of the roof rack became detached from the vehicle's roof.

The driver, a 36-year-old Tolland man, was not injured, according to the report. He was wearing a seat belt, and the vehicle's airbags did not deploy.

The Corolla was not towed.

State police said the man was not distracted and was not found to have violated any Connecticut General Statutes in connection with the crash.

The report said the low-hanging wire had previously been reported to Frontier Communications.
