Chair Report: June 13th Meeting Review
Council Goals Reviewed, Covid-19 Emergency Declaration Ended, June 8th Community Forum Discussed and Appointments Approved.

Good Afternoon neighbors! A happy Friday and happy end to the school year! Please see below the chairperson’s report for our June 13th Town Council meeting.
First, the Town Council read into the record a Proclamation Honoring the Life of Dennis Carlson and presented a proclamation to the family. The Tolland Fire Department also presented shadowboxes to the family in his memory. This reading and presentation was followed by the reading of a Proclamation Recognizing June as Pride Month.
After these readings were four new items of business. The first new item of business was the a review of the June 8th Community forum on the street takeover. Mr. Foley and Trooper Eklund provided a summary of the incident and the results of the forum in terms of ongoing arrests, future responses and positive changes taken by the CSP. Questions were asked regarding dissemination on information, further community training and outreach and continued partnership with our Resident Troopers as well as Troop C.

The second item of business was a consideration of a resolution officially suspending the town’s public health and civil preparedness emergency in conjunction with the state and federal suspension of their emergencies. This resolution was approved unanimously. Councilors expressed gratitude for the efforts public safety, volunteers and the community undertook during the difficulties the Covid-19 Pandemic caused for multiple years. While there are ongoing challenges and ripple effects from the shutdowns, the community is moving forward.
The third item of business is a final review of the Town Council’s 2021-2023 goals. Mr. Foley provided a high-level summary responding to the council’s goals, many of which have been accomplished or are in progress. Those topics that will need further discussion and consideration are a strategic plan, well water concerns, completing the firehouse projects and other long-term goals.
