Council to Consider ARPA Funding for Adam's Adventure, Accessibility Grant Application, Obsolete Board of Education Equipment & Other Topics

Good Afternoon neighbors, and Happy first Friday of July! Hope you all had a great Independence Day holiday this week. Please see below the chairperson’s report for the July 11th special and regular meetings.

First, the Town Council will convene for an Executive Session finalizing the Town Manager’s first annual review and to discuss upcoming Union Negotiations.

Following this meeting, the Town Council will reconvene to take action on four new business items.

The first of these items is a consideration of a resolution approving ARPA Subcommittee Funding Use for Adam’s Adventure Playground Repairs and Improvements. The cost for these repairs and improvements is set to not exceed $12,00, with $3,500 reserved for installation if the DPW staff cannot install certain specialized equipment.

The second item of business is a consideration of a resolution approving a grant with the state Department of Transportation (DOT) for up to $800,000 dollars to cover site projects across town that will improve ADA accessibility to fields and recreational spaces.

These spaces include Cross Farms, the Recreation Center and Crandall Park. Grants are being awarded between $100,00 and $800,000, and would cover 100% of the cost for construction excluding bleacher seating for these projects. This would be a separate project undertaken by the town at a later point.

The third new item of business is consideration of a resolution declaring various items obsolete from the Board of Education. These items were unanimously approved to be designated obsolete by the Board of Education on June 28th and include outdated textbooks, kitchen equipment and other miscellaneous items.

The final item is appointments to various municipal boards and commissions, with one appointment to the Commission on People with Disabilities. If you have interest in serving on a board or commission, please check out the list located on pages 23-24 of the meeting packet and email vacancies@tollandct.gov your interest in serving.
