Christmas Weekend Crashes Keep Troop C Busy

State police from Troop C were busy with a wild weekend of crashes.

TOLLAND, CT — State police from the Troop C barracks chased down a variety of traffic incidents during the later portion of Christmas week, the log book indicates.

MANSFIELD, CT — Jose Marquez, 51, of Ashford, was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and three other motor vehicle violations after a 2:17 a.m. crash on Route 195, according to a report. He was noticed not being able to maintain a lane and pulled over, state police said.

TOLLAND, CT — State police said a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling north on Shenipsit Lake Road at 8:39 a.m. when it slid on icy pavement and went into a culvert. The 22-year-old driver was issued a ticket for traveling too fast for conditions, state police said.

MANSFIELD, CT — At 1:35 p.m., a 1994 Ford Ranger was heading south on Puddin Lane when the 17-year-old driver lost control, hit a stone wall and wound up in a cornfield, according to a report. The vehicle was towed out of the field, state police said.

ELLINGTON, CT — Christopher Kraft, 47, of Tolland, was charged with driving under the influence and a lane violation after a one-car crash on Route 140, according to a report. The crash took place at 7:41 p.m., according to a report.

Dec. 24

VERNON, CT — At 1 a.m., a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis skidded off a section of Interstate 84 and slammed into a rock embankment, according to a report. No injuries were reported.

MANSFIELD, CT — Robert Hartling, 18, of Columbia, was charged with speeding and drunken driving after being pulled over on Route 44, state police said. The incident was at 12:50 a.m., according to a report.

Dec. 25

SOMERS, CT — At 7:37 a.m. on Highland View Drive, a 2010 Mercury Milan hit a utility pole near the Main Street intersection, according to a report. The 21-year-old driver was issued a warning for traveling too fast, state police said.
