Connecticut Girl Who Battled State Over Forced Chemo Heading Home
After months of treatment and legal battles Cassandra C. is on her way home.

A Connecticut teenager forced to undergo chemotherapy against her will has finished her treatment and is heading home.
Cassandra C., 17, was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in September.
“Omg I’m coming home today. I’ve been ready to leave since the day I got here , I’m so happy the day is finally here,” Cassandra tweeted Monday morning from her Twitter account.

She recently had a port removed that was used for treatment. The treatment consisted of six rounds of chemotherapy and she was confined to Connecticut children’s Medical Center in Hartford, according to the Courant
Doctors believed she would have an 85 percent chance of surviving with the treatment and would almost certainly die without it.

She didn’t want to go through the process and her mother supported the decision, according to court documents.A trial court granted the Department of Children and Families temporary custody so she could go through the treatment, according to court documents.
The case went to the state Supreme Court, which ruled that Cassandra wasn’t mature enough to make her own decisions regarding treatment.
