TOLLAND, CT — A home in Tolland was destroyed by a raging fire Tuesday night, town officials said.

The initial call came in at 11:31 p.m.

When they arrived at the scene, firefighters encountered the home on Bonair Hill Road completely engulfed in flames and Tolland Fire chief John Littell said crews had to contend with frozen hoses in frigid, below-zero temperatures.

He was transported via ambulance to Hartford HealthCare's Rockville hospital campus, Foley said. Littell could not elaborate on his condition.

Town staff members and the American Red Cross are helping the displaced family.

State Fire Marshals have been at the scene to investigate the cause and origin. Littell, who was still at the scene Wednesday morning, called the situation, "a total loss."
