Details of Sunday's Wild I-84 Fatal Crash in Tolland Released

State police on Monday released the details of a wild Fatal Father's Day crash on Interstate-84.

TOLLAND, CT — State police on Monday released the details of a wild Father's Day crash on Interstate-84 involving two cars and a tractor-trailer that claimed the lives of two Hartford residents.

The crash took place at 12:38 a.m. Sunday and originated on the westbound side of the highway between between exits 68 and 67. Richard Wells, 56 and Carolyn Everett, 52 were both pronounced dead at the scene, according to a report.

Wells was driving a 2007 Malibu in the left-hand lane with Everett in a passenger seat when the car, for some unknown reason, veered across all three lanes and hit a guardrail on the right shoulder, according to a report.

The car bounced into the right lane and was hit by a tractor-trailer operated by 56-year-old Robson Santos, of Framingham, MA, according to a report. It then hit a 2016 Honda CRV driven by Elizabeth Frederick, 45, of Florida, NY. Frederick's car wound up on its roof in the center median. She was taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford via a Tolland ambulance, but police said her injuries did not seem to be major.

The truck shot across the three westbound lanes, broke through the center barrier and then traveled across all three eastbound lanes and into a wooded area, according to a report.

Santos refused medical treatment at the scene, according to a report.

State police are asking that anyone witnessing the crash contact them at the Troop C barracks, 860-896-3200.
