Driver Killed As Car Gets Stuck Under Truck On Highway In Tolland

TOLLAND, CT — A Massachusetts man was killed Monday afternoon when his car collided with a tractor-trailer on a stretch of Interstate-84 in Tolland, state police said.

The crash took place at 3:16 p.m., according to a state police crash report.

The truck was heading east, just prior to exit 69 with the car, a 2008 Mercedes E-Class traveling ahead of it, according to a crash report. The driver of the Mercedes, 59-year-old Stephen Gharabegian of Lexington, MA, lost control of the car and swerved right, according to a crash report. The truck then hit the driver's side of the Mercedes in the right lane and the Mercedes became stuck under its trailer, according to a crash report.

Gharabegian was taken to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries and was later pronounced dead, sate police said.

The driver of the truck, a 50-year-old man from Virginia, was not hurt, according to state police.
