TOLLAND, CT β€” The bed of a dump truck somehow raised just before the Old Cathole Road overpass on Interstate 84 and slammed into the bridge early Wednesday morning, state police and Tolland fire officials said Wednesday.

According to a preliminary state police report, at 3:34 a.m., the Troop C barracks was advised that the raised bed of a dump truck was leaning against the overpass on the westbound side of I-84 in Tolland.

After the truck hit the bridge, the bed broke off, state police said. It was in an upright position and had to be carefully removed by a heavy wrecker, officials said.
