Escapee Captured out of Troop C

He had been assigned to a transitional program after an assault case, state police said.

TOLLAND, CT — An escapee from the state corrections system is back in custody, state police said.

State police from the Troop C barracks in Tolland said that Jonathan McEwen, 27, was arrested on Friday. He appeared in court on Monday and failed to post a $50,000 bond, according to judicial system records.

He is being charged with first-degree escape from a corrections facility, state police said. His original case involved an assault, according to an arrest warrant. He is due back in court on March 21, court records show.

He was in a transitional supervision program out of Vernon but had gone AWOL for about a week, according to an arrest warrant.

Police tracked him down through his mother and McEwen then promised to surrender at Troop C, according to an arrest warrant.
