Fifth Annual Evening of Wonder Honors Leaders Building Health Equity

The fifth annual Wheeler Clinic Evening of Wonder gala on October 17, 2015 celebrates recovery, health and growth at all stages of life.

The fifth annual Wheeler Clinic Evening of Wonder gala on October 17, 2015 celebrates recovery, health and growth at all stages of life and honors leaders who are committed to delivering integrated care and building health equity in underserved communities.

The honorees include Sharon D. Langer, M.Ed., J.D., advocacy director, Connecticut Voices for Children; Jose Ortiz, MBA, MS, LADC, president and chief executive officer, Hispanic Health Council; Gregory Scott, vice chairman and national sector leader, health plans, Deloitte LLP; Adam R. Silverman, MD, FACP, vice president for ambulatory strategy and development, Saint Francis Care; and Brad Witte, Ph.D., care management director, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.

“Our honorees this year include an array of professionals and organizations who share a strong commitment to reducing health disparities and ensuring that health care is accessible to everyone, particularly our most vulnerable populations,” said Susan Walkama, LCSW, president and chief executive officer, Wheeler Clinic.

Proceeds from Evening of Wonder support Wheeler’s continuum of coordinated, integrated primary and behavioral health care services. Connecticut Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman serves as the event’s Honorary Chair, and WFSB - Channel 3 Eyewitness News Anchors Dennis House and Kara Sundlun will serve as the event masters of ceremonies. Aetna returns as the Presenting Sponsor and has provided leadership support for this event since 2011. This year, additional top supporters include Broadcast Sponsor WFSB - Channel 3 Eyewitness News, Platinum Sponsors Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna and Northwestern Mutual, and Print Sponsor C&R Marketing Services of Bristol. Jake Biscoglio and William D. Gombatz, Wheeler trustees, serve as event co-chairs.

Evening of Wonder will be held at the Hartford Marriott Downtown and begins with a reception and silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and a dynamic live auction at 7 p.m., and dancing and live entertainment.
