The drivers of both cars told state police they saw the passenger in an oncoming white sport utility vehicle throw a plastic cup of fruit at the Uplander, which splattered on the windshield, according to a crash report.

The driver of the Uplander stopped and reversed in an effort to turn around and get the registration number of the fruit thrower's SUV, but the vehicle remained traveling backward and, despite the driver of the Altima stopping and blowing the horn, backed into the Altima, according to a crash report.
