Tolland Youth Garden 2014 Spring Programs

THE MAGICAL SEED:
A Tolland Youth Garden Workshop for kids ages 5 – 10
Saturday, April 12 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
at the Tolland Library No fee

We'll explore garden magic where it begins - with seeds and soil.! Learn to make your own potting soil and seed starting pots. Pick from a variety of seeds to plant: flowers, herbs, vegetables. You can plant sunflower seeds for the GREAT SUNFLOWER PROJECT (see related post). Take your seedling home and watch it grow! Instructor: Kurt Werner, TYG member and CT Master Gardener candidate.

TOLLAND YOUTH GARDEN STEWARDS TRAINING
Saturday, April 19 1 – 3 p.m. Ages 11 – 18
at the Tolland Library
Fee for first timers: $10 Returning Stewards: no fee

This leadership training opportunity is for youth interested in exploring the joys and benefits of gardening with children and community service at the same time. Stewards will be asked to volunteer to work with adult instructors for at least three Tuesday morning sessions in the SOWING SEEDS OF SUNSHINE 2014 Youth Garden Summer Gardening Program at Crandall Park. If they wish, Stewards can complete requirements for certification as Junior Master Gardeners by the University of CT Tolland County Extension Service. Ten Stewards have been certified since 2012.
