Gun, Drugs, Nabbed During I-84 Stop in Tolland

The drug seizure was the result of a traffic stop, state police said.

TOLLAND, CT — State police intercepted a gun with illegal magazines and drugs after a traffic stop on Interstate-84 on Wednesday.

At 8:55 p.m. on Wednesday, state police from Tolland-based Troop C observed a vehicle traveling on I-84 westbound in the area of Exit 68 in Tolland drifting in and out of the center and left lanes, according to a report.

A trooper then stopped the vehicle.

The operator, identified as Dane Craven, 26, of Darby, PA, informed the trooper that he had a firearm in the center console of the vehicle, a report indicates.

The gun is being described by state police as a fully loaded Glock .40 cal., with an illegal, high-capacity magazine and a round in the chamber. It was taken by the trooper, according to a report.

Police dog Captain responded to the scene and, during a search, alerted troopers to the presence of narcotics near the trunk of the vehicle, according to a report.

State police then found a duffel bag containing approximately 14.5 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, narcotics paraphernalia, a small amount of heroin residue in a blender, and a second high capacity magazine, a report indicates.

Both Craven and his front seat passenger, Nestor Berroa 29, of Yonkers, NY, were arrested, according to a report.

Craven was charged with failure to maintain a lane, having a weapon in a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit, two counts of possessing a large-capacity magazine, possession of narcotics with the intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a report.

Berroa was charged with narcotics possession with the intent to sell, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a report indicates.

Craven was held on a $500,000 bond and Berroa was held on a $250,000 bond and both were to appear in court on Thursday, state police said.
