High Winds, Slick Pavement, Wreak Havoc In Tolland County Monday

Monday morning's quick freeze, snow squalls and high winds during the day left their share of damage throughout Tolland County.
Here is a look at the havoc from state and local authorities:
- 5 a.m.: A multi-vehicle crash involving a jacknifed tractor-trailer on Interstaste-84 eastbound closed the highway to the state line for some time. State police aaifd the roadwat was "quite slick."
- 10 a.m.: A trree fell near 40 Tolland Turnpike in Ellington and took some wires with it, according to Tolland Alert. The road was closed at the Ellington-Tolland line for a good portion of the morning.
- 11:54 a.m.: A tree came down on a Somers house at 177 Golf Road, authorities said. The tree left some damage to the roof, but no wires involved, according to authorities.
- 12:56 p.m.: In Tolland, South River Road was closed between No. 438 and Fox Ridge Lane because of a tree and wires down on the road.
- 1:20 p.m.: Due to the high winds affecting power lines, Maple Street School and Northeast School in Vernon lost electricity at about 1:20 p.m. Schools are ran under normal operations and power was restored at 2:30 and 1:40 respectively and dismissals were at their regular times.
- 1:45 p.m.: Fire crews responded to the 100 block of Virginia Lane in Tolland on reports of low hanging wires with a large tree down in the area.
- 1:50 p.m.:Fire units responded to the area of 40 Browns Bridge Road in Tolland for a reported tree on wires.
- 5:30 p.m. : Grahaber Road was closed from Hare Rd. in Ellington to Bonair Hill Road in Tolland for a tree down.
