Home Cleaner Charged In Tolland Stolen And Forged Check Case

TOLLAND, CT — A person who was cleaning a home in Tolland is facing a larceny charge in connection with a state police investigation into a check stolen from the home and then forged, according to a warrant.

Kristen Long, 34, of Windham, was served a warrant on New Year's Day, state police records show. Records show she has been charged with fifth-degree larceny and third-degree identify theft. She posted a $10,000 bond and is due in Rockville Superior Court in Jan. 17, rerecords show.

According to a warrant, state police began investigating Long on Oct. 29, when troopers were summoned to a home on South River Road in Tolland on Oct. 29. The homeowner complained about a forged check cashed at an M&T Bank branch in Willimantic, according to a warrant.

The homeowner said a Chaplin-based cleaning company had been coming to the house every other week for about 90 minutes for four years. The homeowner said he noticed that a $600 check made out to "Kristen Long" had been cashed on Oct. 25, the day Long was at the home cleaning for the first time, according to a warrant.

The homeowner said the signature was clearly forged and told state police no such check had been issued, according to a warrant. A checkbook had been left on the kitchen counter, according to a warrant. The owner of the cleaning service agreed to reimburse the homeowner after a police report was filed, according to a warrant. State police then applied for a warrant.
