Icy Highway Leads To Multiple Truck Crashes In Tolland

TOLLAND, CT — Emergency responders in Tolland had to contend with multiple tractor-trailer crashes overnight on Interstate-84 as temperatures dropped to below freezing and turned slush into ice.

The two most serious accidents were on the eastbound side of the highway, just prior to Exit 68, along a notorious hilly stretch of road. A pair of trucks had skidded off the pavement and one began leaking fuel, fire officials said.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was called to the scene to assist Tolland fire crews and state police.

No injuries were reported.

At one point two lanes were closed, fire officials said.
