TOLLAND, CT — For the second time in about two weeks in the same area, a ladder flew off a vehicle, landed on Interstate 84, and was hit by passing vehicles, state police reports indicate.

The latest incidents took place just after 8 a.m. Sunday on a stretch of the highway in Tolland, state police said. A 2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter utility van was heading west on I-84 in the left-hand lane and an "unsecured ladder" fell from its roof and landed in the center lane, state police said.

The ladder was hit first by a 2022 Honda Pilot and then by a 2019 Honda Accord in the span of about 20 minutes, according to a crash report.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 45-year-old Worcester, MA, man, was cited for driving without a license and having an unsecured load, according to a crash report.

On May 22, according to state police, a sport utility vehicle crashed into a ladder on a stretch of I-84 in Vernon, state police said. How the ladder wound up there is a mystery, however.

The Jeep came upon a ladder sitting in the right-hand lane on the westbound side of the highway near Exit 67 and could no avoid it, according to a crash report.

The vehicle from which the ladder became dislodged could not be located, state police said.
