TOLLAND, CT — Here is a summary of the latest town manager's report in Tolland.

Tolland residents will have two chances to clear out unwanted items this weekend as the town hosts a free electronics recycling event and a free paper shredding event on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Tolland High School, 1 Eagle Hill.

According to the Town Manager’s April 14 report, the electronics collection will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 noon in cooperation with Take 2, Inc. The two events were included in a broader town update that also noted a recent leadership change in public works. “Scott Lappen, Director of the Department of Public Works retired recently after 10 years with the Town,” the report states. “Scott came to us with 30 years of experience in the Public Works field.”

The town also thanked Lappen in the report, stating, “We would like to thank him for his dedication and all his contributions to the Town. We wish Scott a happy, well-earned retirement.”

Elsewhere in the public works update, the town reported that its engineering firm has gathered field data from local roads for a five-year paving plan. According to the report, that work is expected to help set resurfacing priorities and support plans for guide rail and road sign replacement. The town said the finalized plan will be shared on its web page.

For this week, the clearest public-facing item is Saturday’s collection schedule at the high school. Residents who want to recycle old electronics can arrive beginning at 8 a.m., while those bringing papers for shredding can drop them off starting at 9 a.m. Both events are set to end at noon.
