TOLLAND, CT β€” A littering charge was added to a drunken driving charge after a driver tossed a cigarette out his car's window just before a traffic stop in Tolland, according to a state police arrest report.

At 10 p.m. on Dec. 27, a troopers noticed a gray Honda Civic swerve between lane several times while heading east on Tolland Stage Road near Burbank Road, according to an arrest report. The 21-year-old driver then threw the butt out his driver's side window, state police said.

The driven was pulled over and failed sobriety tests and was subsequently charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane for his driving and littering on public property for throwing the cigarette, according to an arrest report.

He is due in court on Jan. 17.
