
Come see an exciting array of work On and Of Paper. Jurors Barbara Hocker and Doug Gillette selected Erik and Martin Demaine’s Basket, for the Best in Show Susan Shimer Memorial Award. Basket is an aesthetically and mathematically fascinating origami work by this father/son team, both of whom teach at MIT. (Erik is a MacArthur Genius Award winner.)
The First Place Susan Shimer Memorial Award went to Barbara Groff’s exquisite pastel still life, Alice’s Wonderland.Second Place was awarded to Karen Israel’s pastel First Positions, an engaging look at a little girl’s ballet class. Third Place honors, and a Jerry’s Artarama West Hartford gift certificate, went to Nan Runde’s Ascent, a subtle graphite drawing of a bird in flight. Honorable Mention and a PhotoSynthesis Gift Certificate went to Michael Ruthen’s poignant photograph, Joshua. Janet Bogan Romanowski’s charcoal The Guitarist won an Honorable Mention and a Sandra Wakeen Atelier Gift Certificate. Jan Geoghegan’s mixed media collage Taking a Chance won an Honorable Mention and a gift certificate from E.M. Dougan Art and Framing. The final Honorable Mention and a gift certificate from Frame Dimensions was awarded to Stephen Sottile’s etching, Harborside.
Merit Awards went to Joel Davidson’s photograph Whooper Swan – Japan, Michele Sinkez’s watercolor Pond View Grasses, Christine Iver’s pastel Chops and Robert Desaulier’s watercolor and gouache Quarry.
