Picture Tolland: Helping Out A Half-Century Ago

TOLLAND, CT — The latest installment of the Picture Tolland series takes us to local firefighters lending a hand a half century ago this week.

Shown in the photo are Tolland firefighters pumping water from a hydrant on Union Street in the Rockville section of Vernon using Tank 40.

The water was being supplied to the scene of a house fire on Village Street in Rockville on March 6 1972.

The stores looked quite different back then.
