Picture Tolland: A Small Building With A Big Presence

The latest installment of the Picture Tolland series.

TOLLAND, CT — The latest installment of the picture Tolland Series takes us back to the 1800s and a building that was once tucked into one portion of Tolland Green.

According to the Tolland Historical Society, between No. 41 Tolland Green and the Congregational Church at No. 45, there once was one small building.

It was first used by Calvin Wiley (who lived in No. 41) as a law office in about 1820.

Later, the Tolland County Mutual Fire Insurance Company (chartered in 1828) moved there in 1856 and remained until 1899.
