Route 195 Construction to Overlap With UConn Move-In Week

Route 195 construction should not drag well into the fall, however.

TOLLAND, CT — Construction on Route 195 is expected to spill into move-in week at the University of Connecticut, according to a timetable released by town officials Thursday.

That means an anticipated September completion date, officials said. Move-in week is slated for Aug. 25 through 27 and the first day of classes is on tap for Aug. 28, UConn officials said. Some student get permission to move in earlier.

According to the state project superintendent, the final milling and shimming of Route 195 will be done next Thursday and Friday — July 27 and July 28.

That work will be followed up by the "final course of pavement," beginning the following Monday — July 31, project officials said.

Once the paving is completed, electrical contractors will begin to install the traffic loops and will set the timing on all of the traffic lights, officials said.

Landscaping work should start by the beginning of September to address the island just east of the Exit 68 interchange as well as the remaining areas along the roadway, officials said.

Officials said construction on Route 195 "will be substantially complete" by mid-September.

UConn officials said they will be posting traffic alerts closer to move-in weekend.
