TOLLAND, CT — A single-car crash on Interstate 84 Tuesday night sent Life Star helicopter streaming to Tolland and then to Hartford Hospital, fire officials said.

The crash took place just after 8 p.m. near Exit 68 on the eastbound side of the highway, Fire Chief John Littell said from the scene. Firefighters encountered a Honda on its side in a wooded area.

The driver sustained what appeared to be serious injuries and Life Star was called to the scene. It landed on the highway and took the driver to Hartford Hospital with undisclosed injuries, Littell said.

The crash initially forced the closure of the entire eastbound side and the high-speed westbound lane, Littell said. All but the right-hand eastbound lane was re-opened at 8:50 p.m.

Crews remained in the right-hand lane to clean up the debris.
