The latest evidence shows that the dinosaurs died off before the Chicxulub asteroid struck, and that the ocean life die off occurred well after the asteroid. The latest theory is that the famous end-Cretaceous mass extinction event (the end of the age of the dinosaurs) was actually caused by CO2 induced climate change, similar to the mechanism implicated in three other mass extinction events in the past. The source of the CO2 for this event seems to have been multiple hyperactive volcanic eruptions in India called a large igneous province (LIP). These eruptions flooded an area three times the size of Texas with lava and released CO2 at a rate similar to mankind’s release of fossil CO2 from fuels, but not as continuous. The huge volcanic eruptions required about 200,000 years to accomplish what man can accomplish in the next 200 years at the current exponential growth rate of fossil fuel use.

One of the largest glaciers in East Antarctica was recently discovered to also have access to its grounding line by warm ocean waters. That totals about 20 feet of unstoppable sea level rise discovered so far. We should try to slow it down by reducing our fossil carbon emissions for our grandchildren’s sake.

Based upon world average temperatures, this was the warmest winter ever and the only region not experiencing above average heat was the Eastern US. 2014 was the warmest year ever but was quickly topped by the 12 months : February through January, and topped again by March through February. Ocean temperatures are continuing to rise. The predicted El Nino has finally arrived. :
