Speeding on I-84 in Tolland Leads to Drug Bust

Troopers and a Vernon police dog found drugs in a vehicle after a speeding stop.

TOLLAND, CT — State Police and a Vernon police dog teamed up to snag a pair of suspected drug dealers after a speeding stop on Saturday afternoon, an arrest report indicates.

On Saturday at 3:20 p.m., a trooper noticed a green Hyundai Sante Fe traveling 83 mph in a posted 65 mph zone eastbound on Interstate-84 near Exit 68, according to an arrest report.

When questioning the driver, 22-year-old Kelly Prejean, of Saco, ME and the passenger, 22-year-old Anthony Barrome, of The Bronx, troopers suspected they had drugs and called in a Vernon police dog, who was on duty that day.

Needles, used cotton balls and foil were found in the vehicle and Prejean admitted to possessing 100 grams of crack cocaine, according to an arrest report.

She was charged with:

  • A registration/license violation
  • Speeding
  • Possessing drug paraphernalia
  • Conspiracy to sell illegal drugs
  • Criminal impersonation
  • Interfering

Barrome was charged with:

  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Criminal attempt to sell drugs
  • Conspiracy to sell illegal drugs

Both Were held over the weekend on $100,000 bonds and were to appear in court on Monday, state police said.
