State Police: Man Goes on Guitar-Smashing Tirade After Being Denied Cinnamon Sticks

He is facing two charges as a result.

TOLLAND, CT - A local man is facing an assault charge after a he went on a guitar-smashing tirade because he could not get cinnamon sticks at the grocery store, according to a state police arrest report.

The incident took place Tuesday at 7:48 p.m. on Old Stafford Road, state police said.

Troopers went to a home on Old Stafford Road after being told Robert Rene, 29, had become "belligerent" because he was not being allowed to get the cinnamon sticks at a local store, according to an arrest report.

He began kicking and punching the walls of his bedroom and threw a guitar against the wall, according to an arrest report. He then struck a woman with the guitar and the neck of the instrument cut her forehead, according to an arrest report.

She was treated at Rockville General Hospital, state police said.

Rene was charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct and is due in Rockville Superior Court on June 28, state police said.
