State Police: Man Threatens To Burn Down Ashford Hotel, Blames Drunkenness

He remained in custody on Wednesday, state police said.

ASHFORD, CT - A Florida man threatened to burn down a local hotel on Tuesday but later apologized and told state police he was drunk, according to an arrest report.

Joseph Dombrowski's remorse did not spare him from breach of peace and threatening charges, state police said. Dombrowski, 36, of 9 Cliffside Drive, Ormond Beach, FL, appeared in court on Tuesday a short while after his arrest and remained in custody Wednesday morning on a $5,000 bond, according to judicial system records.

He is due back in court on July 11.

Troopers went to the Red Carpet Inn, in Ashford, at 6:31 a.m. on Tuesday after receiving a call about a man "threatening to get gas and burn down the motel," according to an arrest report.

Police found Dombrowski in the parking lot and he matched the description provided of the man, according to an arrest report.

A witness told police he also threatened to shoot someone with a paint ball gun, according to an arrest report.

When troopers questioned Dombrowski, he said the statements were "unintended" and added he made them "due to his intoxication," according to an arrest report.
