State Police Release Report On I-84 Crash That Left Truck In 2 Pieces

Two trucks collided on I-84 Saturday near the Tolland-Vernon line.

TOLLAND/VERNON, CT — State police have released a report on Saturday morning's Interstate 84 tractor-trailer crash near the Vernon-Tolland line that left one of the trucks in two pieces.

The crash took place at 5:53 a.m. and left the eastbound side of the highway closed between exits 67 and 68 until 11:42 a.m., state police and Tolland fire officials said. Traffic was snarled along routes 30 and 74 From Tolland well into Vernon.

Both trucks were headed east and, about a half-mile past Exit 67, collided after the driver, a 31-year-old man from New York State, lost control, according to a state police report. The New York driver's truck split in two with one section spinning out on the right-hand shoulder and the second part coming to a rest on the left-hand-shoulder, according to a crash report.

The New York man was taken to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries, according to a crash report. The other driver, a 50-year-old Ansonia man, escaped injury, state police said.
