State Police Search Tolland Town Hall

The search comes after Public Works Director Clement Langlois' wife Lori Langlois was arrested and charged with stealing town funds.

State police executed a search warrant at Tolland Town Hall last Thursday to seize financial records from Public Works Director Clement Langlois, the Hartford Courant reports.

The search warrant follows the Sept. 5 arrest of Langlois’ wife Lori Langlois, who was arrested on larceny charges, according to the Journal Inquirer. She allegedly inflated a bill for the town from Vernon Tree Service, where she worked as a bookkeeper, and kept the extra funds for herself, according to the arrest warrant. The amount alleged to have been taken is more than $10,000, according to the Courant.

Lori Langlois has been charged with two counts of first-degree larceny, two counts of second-degree larceny and one count of second-degree forgery. She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on October 24, according to court records.

A warrant details how several other witnesses have come forward to state police with allegations of “shady” deals that involved Clement Langlois and the sale of town equipment, according to the Journal Inquirer.

The town commissioned an audit into financial records, but it didn’t substantiate the allegations against Lori Langlois. Auditors found no credible evidence that Clement Langlois knowingly approved false or inflated invoices.
