Steps Being Taken To Alleviate Crashes On Tolland Green
Several traffic markers have been put in place at what has lately been a troublesome intersection in Tolland.

TOLLAND, CT β In response to a rash of traffic incidents, Tolland officials said they are striving to make what is supposed to be a peaceful spot in town a lot safer.
"After consulting with a traffic engineer we came up with a plan to help alleviate the accidents that have been occurring at the intersection of Route 74 and Tolland Green," Tolland Town Manager Brian Foley said in his latest report to the town council.
The crashes have not been limited to fender-benders. Homes have been hit in a few occasions in 2023, state police records show.

Foley said the town recently installed advanced warning signs prior to the curve on Tolland Green and we have recently added three, along with "chevron signs" pointing to the right "to help notify the motoring public of the sharp turn."
An additional stop sign with a reflective strip in the pole has been added to the intersection, which is designed to make it more visible.

"Our plan is to see how these improvements help with eliminating the accidents in the area," Foley said.
If traffic incidents persist, the next step might be adding centerline rumble strips on the double yellow line on Tolland Green, according to Foley.
"These have proven to be an effective way to alert distracted rivers that they have crossed over the centerline of the road," Foley said.
A speed warning sign is also in place on Route 74 prior to an uphill curve heading to Tolland Green.
